Feng Shui Colors from the Begining.

Feng Shui Colors has been part of the principles of Feng Shui which is estimated to be over 5000 years old.

When looking at feng shui decorating people often ask how important the color scheme will be in relation to achieving positive energy and harmony.

From the very birth of the principles of feng Shui we have the association with color showing just how important it is.

Houses were constructed with color in mind, the positioning of homes and buildings in ancient Chinese culture was in association with the color choice.

The Chinese used astronomical calculations to ensure that the house was properly aligned to meet the requirements of feng shui.

This is where we get the first real association with color in feng shui as the four points of the compass; North, South East and West are allocated their very own color.

South is the red phoenix, east is the green dragon and west is the white tiger all very clear and distinct. Many believe that rooms in the west of the home would thus be white and the east green and so forth.

The feng shui color for North is the least clear as this is known as the Dark Turtle which all believe is purple as per the color of the turtle.

Many other factors will affect the choice of color whilst it may have once been the case that a home facing the west build in the western area of a city would be colored white on the outside.

However as we need to take consideration of the 5 elements of feng shui which are metal, earth fire wood and water all of which are associated with colors then more consideration is required than just where the house is situated.

The bagua chart provides us with an example of the various colors which should be used in the different parts of the home to provide different effects on our flow of energy.

It is not easy to aply feng shui color to modern homes which were not designed to meet the principles nor build with feng shui in mind.

The fact that most scholars will give differnt and contradicting advice is no help either, to apply the right color to your home is to apply those which take as much consideration of feng shui colors  and principles as possible.

To ensure the flow of positive energy apply those colors which are right for you and all who live in the house and this will help ensure harmony.

Feng Shui Decorating and Selecting Furniture.

What do we know about selecting and positioning furniture in accordance with feng shui decorating principles?

There have been lots of information on feng shui decorating and how one must reduce clutter to ensure the flow of positive energy but very little has been said about the actual furniture or its placement.

A recent an advert in the United Kingdom for an insurance company does make mention of feng shui,  in this advertisement a lady mentions feng shui decorating in the context that the sofa she has been invited to sit down on is not in the right position for feng shui.

The aforementioned lady insists that the sofa should be facing north if it is to have the correct feng shui and refuses to sit down preferring to move ending up sitting on some decoration rather than the sofa.
No doubt someone somewhere stated this concept that for feng shui decorating the sofa should indeed face north, however as I have stated on numerous instances most houses are not built with feng shui in mind.

We could ensure the sofa is facing north and end up sitting facing a wall or the door which is just not at all comfortable or sensible.

The most important aspect is to ensure that your home can promote and encourage the flow of positive energy and that there is sufficient room to allow that flow by ensuring there is no clutter.

Whilst it would be nice to be able to apply every principle we read we always have to be realistic in our application of the feng shui decorating principles.

This also applies to color when we are selecting the sofa; there are guides and suggestions for how one selects the correct colors, the bagua charts for example.

However as is always the case when selecting furniture it must fit in, and that means it must be the right size and color to meet our needs not conflict with what we have.

Feng Shui Decorating De cluttering the Bathroom.

Most people accept the first rule of Feng Shui Decorating de clutter and they apply this to the bedroom the living room and for the most part leave the rest of the house. Of course the bathroom is notorious for clutter and general mess.

The bathroom is a place of all those small but essential items which we cannot do without and need to be just lying there when we appear to use them. Well this is the way most of us think of the bathroom but it does not have to be so cluttered.

Feng Shui decorating should be about the whole house so we should ensure that the positive flow of energy is also in the bathroom. I like my bathroom to be a place of relaxation to close out the world and relax in the tub, this is much better if it is nice and tidy.

Take a good look around and see how much stuff is just not needed not used anymore half finished medicine cream talc we don’t like etc. Start here and get rid of it move it out the door and out of the way. Then we can look at what is left and see how much space we need to store this effectively. This will allow us to select a cabinet or shelf system to clear it all up.

Make sure everyone in the house understands the bathroom should be kept tidy it should be free of clutter and a place of relaxation. Once this has been completed fill that tub grab a magazine and just soak and relax for an hour or two that’s when it really all seems worth the effort, Feng Shui Decorating to stress free living.
