What can you use in place of Cinnabar when doing Feng Shui cures?

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Cures

Feng Shui answers:

Great question. I’m guessing you may be sealing the doors, performing the Golden Ciccada Sheds Shell or something similar. Because Cinnabar is slightly toxic and poisonous, many practitioners are resorting to other items.

First of all, if your intention is strong enough, you can visualize doing the method without the cinnabar. If not, then find something that works for you. Could be red chalk, red marker, or water with red food coloring. Again, it is about the intention when carrying out the method.

Susan Your Questions About Feng Shui Cures

Susan asks…

Feng Shui seeking cures for Low bed with no headboard and a TV in bedroom, bedroom is half octagon shaped.?

Hi all. I am really not sure how the complexity of Feng Shui works in my case. I have those low modern beds with no springboards and chairbacks as headboards. The bed was very expensive and I really like it. I feel good in it despite it doesn’t have a real headboard and it’s low. Any cures?
Also, I have a 30 inch screen tv. It makes me feel relaxed to watch something and fall asleep to unwind from the day. The TV however is on it’s own stand and an armoir wouldn’t fit here, any clues to cover it? It doesn’t sit directly in front of me, but to northeast to when I look up from the bed so I do see myself.
My bed is positioned correctly, commanding & all but where the windows are on my right, it forms 3 sides, like a side of an octagon, three single windows in each wall. Is this considered an auspicious corner?
Lastly, My walls are blue and green. I feel good. I have red too, should I add more red?
Let me know if anyone can help me solve this puzzle!
I thank you for your help!

Feng Shui answers:

I know a bit about Feng Shui. I know that you need plants and fish at your place. You need life in there, that really helps. Also you can get a figure of an elephant and face the elephant towards your front door, it brings good luck. And very important, go to the store and get a small hand mirror and put it above your door. It takes the evil away from your home. This really works. Also adding more red never hurts. Hope this helps you some!

John Your Questions About Feng Shui Wealth Corner

John asks…

Feng Shui SW corner (relationships/marriage) is bathroom, Kitchen sinks in SE. Should I just move?

After two years in my home I have come to realize that my kitchen sink is in the Southeast (wealth) part of the home and in the Southwest (relationships) corner is where the bathroom is located. Does this mean all of my love and money is just going down the drain(s)? Technically its the South wall of my home, the kitchen and bathroom are lined up across the South wall. The entrance is in the Southeast corner as well, on the Eastern wall. How do I counteract/balance this? Or is it hopeless and I should move?

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Wealth Corner

Feng Shui answers:

From what you say, you use the 8 Aspirations system of Feng Shui. Before thinking about move, you should check your home using the 8 Mansions and the Flying Stars system of Feng Shui, which are much more accurate.

You will see that Feng Shui takes more into account. According to the Flying Stars system, you can perfectly have a chart which improves or is especially favorable to relationships and wealth.

Sharon Your Questions About Feng Shui Wealth Corner

Sharon asks…

Looking for fun ideas for bathroom, but want to incorporate feng shui?

We are remodeling our kitchen and putting in a half bathroom. The toilet and corner sink will be black. (The washer and dryer will also be in the same room.) The room is located in the “wealth“/ “health and family” areas of the house. With the black toilet and sink, I thought about doing a Mary Englebreit kind of decor. I would like to do something whimsical, but if that’s not “feng shui” enough for the location of the bathroom, I would love to hear some ideas. (I’m pretty sure that we are already starting with bad feng shui with the bathroom being right next to the kitchen!)Thanks in advance for any ideas!

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Wealth Corner

Feng Shui answers:

I dont know anything about interior decorating. I just know fengshui.

Regarding the kitchen and toilet, there is a fengshui secret that you can consult a fengshui master or a practitioner how to position and locate the stove and the toilet, so that the more you use it, the more you attract wealth into your life. The formulas are pretty complicated to include here.

Next, it is not adviseable to decorate the bathroom/ toilet, because it can complicate the lives of the occupants of the house. For example, if you put a plant or some flowers in a toilet located at the west side of your house, your daughter (if you have one) can have a boyfriend who has a bad influence on your daughter and have a rebellious tendencies. And you cant do anything about it.

The same goes with the kitchen.

Fengshui and architecture/ decoration usually dont go hand in hand. Because fengshui has some rigid rules and formulas, while on the other side, architects and designers wants freedom of expression. Fengshui is not about design nor decoration. It is not about painting your house mint green and you will feel calm and cool. It is about measurements and calculations that your house can be optimize for the occupants to have better lives by attracting money and health into their lives.

Ken Your Questions About Feng Shui Wealth Corner

Ken asks…

Please help me with the placement of my bed with feng shui?

I’m female. The Horse is my Chinese sign. If you know feng shui, my “number” thing (not sure what it’s called) is “ken”. I want to keep my tv in the room (I know it’s bad) but the cable is the southwest corner of my room (the wealth corner) and the only place I can put my tv is sitting on top of my big dresser (which I must place based on where my bed is) and then my bed must be face towards it (so I can watch tv comfortably) but according to the ken number, it’s very bad for my head to face either South, East, North, or Southeast. I can’t have my bed at weird angles (I know going against the flow of a room is bad also). I’m very confused, I can send you a bagua map with the setup of my room for a better idea. You’re wasting your time if you say feng shui doesn’t work. I believe in chi and the flow of chi and energy.

Feng Shui answers:

I’m female. The Horse is my Chinese sign. If you know feng shui, my “number” thing (not sure what it’s called) is “ken”.
- wouldn’t it be simpler to just give me your birth date?

I want to keep my tv in the room (I know it’s bad) but the cable is the southwest corner of my room (the wealth corner) and the only place I can put my tv is sitting on top of my big dresser (which I must place based on where my bed is) and then my bed must be face towards it (so I can watch tv comfortably) but according to the ken number, it’s very bad for my head to face either South, East, North, or Southeast. You’re wasting your time if you say feng shui doesn’t work. I believe in chi and the flow of chi and energy.
- first you need to understand that fengshui is based on chi/ energy, this energy is not what most people think it is, it cannot be sensed nor felt, even if you are a psychic. It can only be predicted by using the fengshui techniques/ concepts. Chi occupies space. Chi can be either good or bad or it can be both in some instances. For example, an area good for business might not be good for raising children. Bad chi can affect the good chi. And a house contains many kinds of chi, which interacts with each other, most people describe this as the flow of chi or chi distribution. So, the more space you have good chi the better the outcome will be. I want to emphasize that a house needs to be at least 2/3′s or 67% of space that has good fengshui or it won’t have any effect on your life or that of the occupants. This is still true even if you are just renting a room in a big house. Bec the bad chi from other areas can affect your bedroom. Meaning having a good fengshui in your bedroom does not make you rich, it does not make you more intelligent, it also does not make you sleep better. There are books like lillian too’s book on 8 mansions or ba zhai that talks about facing your bed. But she did not include in her books the real purpose of this method, which is how to locate and position the stove/ rice cooker/ microwave/ anything that you cook or heat up in your house to attract money – yes, if you want to attract money pay a good fengshui pro to do your kitchen!

Going back to facing the bed… When you face your bed to your success direction, it does not make you richer, it only makes your mind more sensitive to money and business issues; to the romance/ love direction, more senstive to feelings of others and being attentive at the school also falls in this area, stability and calm, makes you have peace of mind. Facing the bed is your foot must be pointing the favorable direction when you are lying down the bed. I also thought the same thing as you did… But 2 fengshui masters already confirmed that this is not what it meant. Using this method in the kitchen is more effective.

The bagua map/ black hat is also bogus, bec they are stating that when you put a bathroom in the career area then your career will go down the drain. Just imagine how are you going to built a house with no bathrooms??? This is not fengshui.

Read eva wong’s a master course in fengshui.. She teaches the flying star method in that book. Flying star method is more powerful than 8 mansions.

Sharon Your Questions About Feng Shui Decorating Living Room

Sharon asks…

I am redoing my second living room. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I like reds and Asian style furniture. So I was thinking of decorating feng shui with an Asian touch. However I love Victorian style with pale pinks and “fu fu”. Another option I was thinking about was total feng shui and bright yellows some browns. Its SOOO hard to decide. Please help me.

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Decorating Living Room

Feng Shui answers:

I say do a bit of both. My living room is a nice golden yellow. And since I live in an old Victorian home I have an antique sofa upholstered in a deep rich red color. My accessories are Japanese prints in black frames and other shabby chic stuff in bright white. It seems to all tie together rather well. The key really is mixing and matching and not going over board with the red/pink as an accent.

Pale pink may not go, but maybe you could find a nice toile (the material with the country/people scenes) that has some pink and red and blend it in as a small accent on a pillow or some other small item? My valances are made from that with a solid black rod and sheer white curtains.

The point is, if you have stuff that you love go ahead and use it. The worst that could happen is that you reorganize everything.

I don’t know anything about feng shui, but for general furniture placement I would do an L shape layout. So the back of the love seat against the same wall that the front door is on, then the sofa in an L with that (back facing kitchen) with an end table between the two sofas and the cubes in front of of them. The chaise lounge coming out on an angle from the corner of the patio wall and T.V wall. Also there is no reason you couldn’t run extra cable under baseboards for more options.

Daniel Your Questions About Feng Shui Decorating Living Room

Daniel asks…

I need help decorating my apartment. Any suggestions?

I have a 1BR apt facing South. Here’s a little more about it… My theme is Asian/Feng Shui but I’ve also accepted Morocco into the scheme of things as I found two guardian dogs @ Pier 1. I’m buying the Dragon June Rug @ Pier 1 if that helps for the Living Rm.

DINING RM/KITCHEN:
Enter into the dining area. The apartment has been rehabbed. My tiles are marble-esque I guess. They’re a really light gray/beige/white… To the right upon entry is a closet with sliding doors which I use as a coat closet/broom closet. To the right is my teeny kitchen. I call it a turn around kitchen. You walk in, turn around, and you’re already out. There is a 6′ row of cabinets w/ sink and the stove on the right and Fridge on the left. The kitchen is MAYBE 6-8′ by 5′. I have an iron sconce on the dining room wall going into the kitchen. I also have an iron mirror on the wall straight ahead of entry into my apt.

LIVING ROOM:
If you go back to the front door, the living room is straight ahead but slightly to your left. The separation between the carpet & tile is on an angle. The carpet is light beige. My furniture is tan microfiber and all the dang tables are OAK. I’m tired of OAK. I have plans to sand down all the tables and paint them black this spring. I have a papsan, loveseat, sofa, tv & stand, DVD rack, 2 end tables & a coffee table. For decorating, I have bought a 3X4′ mirror but it hasn’t made it onto the wall just yet. I also have an imported Japanese vase (about 3′ tall) that I fell in love with. I have a bamboo screen draped with 2 or 3 yards of teal silk imprinted with a Japanese print. There are sliding glass doors on the back wall of the living room that face South. I have a 5X8′ balcony.

BEDROOM:
Upon coming in, go past the entry/broom/coat closet. There is another linen closet immediately to the right. just 2 or three more feet ahead is the end of the hall. There is another closet with 3 high shelves because it houses my teeny water heater. This is the game closet. To the right is the bathroom and the left is the bedroom.

Upon entering the bedroom, there are four closet doors (two closets with two mirrored sliding doors each). The window is straight ahead facing south. I have a queen sized bed, nightstand and armoir. There is also a 4′ folding table which serves as my computer desk. I have no where else in the apartment to put it. I am going with a black & pink theme in the bedroom.

I know this is rather lengthy but I want to get some good suggestions. I am looking to PAINT accent walls in the Dining Room and Living Room.

Feng Shui answers:

Moroccan colours tend to be the oranges and deep blues, perhaps an accent wall or two in both rooms? But matching if they’re opening on to one another. The rest in cream (I’m not a fan of too much colour on walls). It’d need to be an earthy shade of either colour, not too orangey or blue – more of a burnt orange or a vibrant blue (but not turquoisey).

As for Feng Shui, is the mirror in the entry directly facing the door? It’s recommended not to have it facing directly.

Ruth Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Ruth asks…

Can you apply Feng Shui principles as a combination: in individual rooms AND to a building @ the same time?

I’ve recently become interested in Feng Shui 4 my home. I just moved into a house & would like 2 apply Feng Shui principles 2 it. I’ve been reading about the placements of objects/colors in certain areas (directions/bagua) of the home in individual rooms OR throughout a bldg for better flow of chi. I want 2 know if I could do this as a combo – move things around in an individual rm AS WELL as 4 the house in general. If so, does this confirm that each rm has its own N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W & N directions? (I already understand the 5 elements 4 each direction). Will the placement of objects in a certain rm defeat the purpose of placement of objects in the bldg? Such as something against an E wall & a neighboring SE wall.

I’ve glanced thru books & visited various websites 4 info. I am hoping someone who is readily familiar w/Feng Shui can give me some advice, rather than directing me to a website or such. Any other additional relevant info would be appreciated (via email).

Thx

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Feng Shui answers:

I had taken some courses under some chinese fengshui masters. And i can tell you that there no such thing as a general guideline to follow, because there are too many fengshui concepts, and each one of them is complicated to explain here. And when someone makes an audit to a house, he/ she must visit the house personally to get precise measurements.

Thus if you are interested to learn fengshui, get the book: A Master Course in Feng-shui by Eva Wong ISBN: 1-57062-584-0. Ms. Eva wong is considered to be a very good fengshui master, but she does not offer courses. She is even better than ms. Lillian too. Ms. Lillian is a writer and not a fengshui master. Ms. Lillian wrote many books about 8 mansions, but she did not include the secret of attracting wealth using this concept in any of her books.

In that book, ms. Eva wong writes about flying stars concept. You need to understand that the book is good, but most fengshui writers just do not write about some alternative ways on the application of the concept. Thus, it is still better to take some courses under a master.

I know that you want an easy answer. But the truth is when a fengshui does an audit. He/ she must first look at the location of the house in relation to water/ road/ river/ bridges and mountain/ building/ structures, around the house. Or where is your house located in the subdivision.

Then we also take the direction of the source of yang energy, usually the main front door – this must be a precise degree measurement using a compass. Then you can use flying stars to calculate for the good locations and bad locations in your house.

The good and bad locations pertain to the energy distribution based on the calculation or “flying of the stars”. The energy is not what you think it is. It is chi. It cannot be felt nor sensed. It just can be calculated using this concept. Because a direction like east (45degrees) is subdivided into 3 parts (15degrees each), a tiny deviation can make a big difference. Thus, it is difficult to summarize everything here.

Without the concepts, most of the fengshui that you will do are not that powerful to bring in wealth or health to change your life significantly.

Even with placing aquariums or deciding where your kitchen must go depends on using these concepts.

I think what most fengshui book writes about are things that are common sense to most fengshui practitioners or to most chinese. And these things won’t change your life. For me, it is just a waste of time to even bother with these without the concepts.

If you know the concepts, you will not even bother to use mirrors or baguas or putting statues around the house. Because you know more powerful ways to achieve what you like.

And in fengshui, you need to have a goal to apply a concept. For example, you need to attract wealth, then you need to activate the current water star. To do this, you need to put an aquarium with an aerator (the number or color of the fish do not matter at all, like what most books tell you – this is putting you off, so that you will not know the secret of this, which is that you need a moving water > which is an aquarium with an aerator or a flowing water) at the current water star – this is where the concept comes in. If you do the calculation, it will locate the current water star in your house.

In fengshui, you can only attract either health or wealth – 1 application for 1 goal. There is no such thing as harmonizing the elements to make your place in harmony – this is another misconception that writers and fengshui people use for you not to get their trade secret. And people actually believe them! =)

i know that this is not an answer to your question, but i hope that you get the book. It will explain to you a lot of things. And with it, you can diy your house and other houses. If you do buy the book, also get a compass – it is better to get a chinese compass or the luo pan, because each circle represent something in the fengshui concepts. But you can replace it with a compass with a rotating compass at the middle.

Ps – for me, it is better for a fengshui application to be supported by at least 2 fengshui concepts. You need to use the fengshui concepts together to cross reference them. The more concept you use in an area, the more powerful it becomes.

- colors do not affect fengshui, it is more that it affects our minds. And fengshui deals more with the environment/ house- not mind. You need to understand that fengshui is not a belief, it works even if you do not believe in it. Meaning, if you use the concepts properly, after application, you need to forget about it and go on with life. And after 1-3 months, life should be easier, like everything is falling into place, like suddenly you just got more clients, that is if you are attracting more wealth.

- in my case, if i want more clients in my business, whenever i do a fengshui in my house, i usually get a result just after a couple of weeks.

- if you combine the flying stars and the elements, then your fengshui will be a lot more powerful than mere painting your room green!

- and you need to understand that nobody has done a 100% fully fengshuid house. If you achieve a 67% or 2/3 done right, then it is already good.

Susan Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Susan asks…

Feng Shui- color selection! How should I base my color selection for wall-painting?

I live in a SW door facing apartment; the building entrance door faces NE; though the main building actually faces SW too. I am Kua 1, my partner is Kua 2. Currently, we have white walls and a white door. We have tried much to include EARTH COLORS majorly in our home. We want to re-paint the place and door, on what should I base my colors (element):-
– The house’s kua #
– My Kua or my partners?
– The entrance of the building or facing of the building’s kua?

I mean automatically this is a bad kua house for my kua 1, so should i downplay areas like N,E,S, SE, because they r lucky for me, but unlucky areas of the house.

Pls. advise. TY.

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Feng Shui answers:

First, fengshui is not about colors. If it were, then i think a predominant color will be popular among the chinese community. But there is none, even the color red is not always used in everything chinese. Because fengshui does not work that way.

Next the thing to remember about a sw-ne facing door (location and direction) is that in the chinese culture this is a location/ direction that most chinese or at least fengshui practitioners are wary of. Because at this point the chinese believe that ghosts and spirits pass. So make this area well lit at all times (but not too bright), dont paint any bright colors like red, orange and yellow at this area, and prevent movements at this location/s.

If you are kua 1, then the house is better for your partner, in terms of luck.

Classical fengshui is mostly measuring and analysis of where you live. You cant make a place lucky. But what you can do is manipulate luck/ life by manipulating the structures of the house like tilting the door to face a certain degree, or putting your stove/ oven/ kitchen to a specific direction/ location so it can attract money into your lives, an most of these require renovations. This is the difficult part in fengshui, why most people want a quick fix and avoid this. The truth is there is no quick fixes. And all fengshui methods are like this.

Feng Shui answers:

Business people as well as common folks throughout the world improve all aspects of their lives using Feng Shui. Although the exact origins of feng shui are debatable, it is thought to have originated in China about five thousand years ago. According to Feng Shui cultural and social issues are influenced by natural, metaphysical and cosmological factors.

Anyone that has researched Feng Shui history knows that this level of interaction between all things is the theory of chi. Although chi is present everywhere, it pools in special places which are very auspicious in feng shui. When a less than auspicious placement occurred, Feng Shui cures were sought to change the flow of energy. This inclusion of nature into the living environment is the first point in Feng Shui and it provides solid ground for higher levels above. The art of Feng Shui is the balancing of energies through adjusting the relationships of particular items in the environment. In Feng Shui, a home and family were lucky if they were blessed to be placed in the most auspicious surroundings.

Robert Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Robert asks…

I like several different types of styles for home decor, should I combine all or choose one?

These are the styles of decor I like – Southwest inspired such as Native American art, pottery, drums, cactus, zig zag lines, bold earthy colors etc; Canadian/Alaskan wildlife like moose, wolves, evergreen trees, pinecones, etc; and Asian inspired decor like bamboo plants, water fountains, windchimes, teapots, feng-shui, etc.

In my new home, should I try to incorporate parts from each or stick with one type the whole way through? I don’t know how I could pick only one style and if I did, I would miss the others. What are your thoughts on this?

feng shui decorating 5 elements cropped Your Questions About Feng Shui Colors For Home

Feng Shui answers:

Pull something from each style that will blend with the other styles. For instance, the Indian pottery will work well with the bold earth colors as well as the fountain and bamboo plants mixed with other types of plants. You could take a couple of pieces of the pottery and make you own water fountain/feature…you could place a bowl or dish on a table filled with pinecones. Decorating is a personal choice..do what makes you feel good and use what you like..the key is to find a common color or element that pulls them together..Good luck and have fun

Mark Your Questions About Bagua Mirror

Mark asks…

I want to place a bagua mirror in my office. What is the proper placement for it?

I just bought a bagua mirror to see if i can revive my energy. I moved into a new office 2 months ago and I feel tired and disoriented all the time. If I put the bagua mirror on the wall that i face, will that reflect the negative energy away or am I drawing it more towards myself? My office is located in the right corner of an upside down L-shaped hallway. Upon entry from the hallway, My officemate’s desk is to the right of the door, against the wall. My desk is shoved into the left corner parallel to the entrance and my back faces the hall. The door is always left open because of company policy, so I can see the opposite corner of the hallway if I turn around while I am sitting in my desk. Any advice would be great. Thank you!
Oh, one small detail, there are absolutely no windows in my office. (sigh.)

Feng Shui answers:

You should not have a bagua mirror inside it should always be on the outside of your office. You should use faceted crystals hanging on the door frame and on the windows instead of a bagua mirror. Baguas are more used to fend off negative spirts. You are looking for something to give you more movement and postive forces.

And you sound like you have the corner lot which is not a good one. So, you will need to face the hall not the back of you. If you can’t do that… Hang a mirror so you can see who is coming in and out. It is the fact that you can not see what is coming from behind that also bothers you.

You should also have some plants in your office (live ones only).

Feng Shui bedroom mirror question…?

In my bedroom, my bed partially faces a mirror. I have no other options as far as furniture placement goes in the room. A friend told me that I should purchase a small Feng Shui Bagua Mirror to hang over my bed. My questions are…is this the correct course of action? If the mirror is the correct course of action. what is the reason for the mirror?

Please be sure to list your source.
I do not want to cover the mirror, so other suggestions please!

Feng Shui answers:

Mh… It would have really helped if you told me the location of your bedroom in the house. Mirrors represent water, so it’s not a good idea to have them in the Fame/Reputation area. However, as a general rule, the Relationship area is extremely good for mirrors (round one, mind you), and it’s good to have your bedroom here. If this is the case, try not to have it in front of the bed. If you can’t change the mirror, then then a crystal ball hanging from the ceiling between the mirror and bed is a good cure. The reason is because it may startle you, and that’s not good ever, and because of the angles it may be directing toward your bed.

Chris asks…

Does anyone know of a good online Feng Shui store?

I have a long list of supplies I need for my home & I want to get them as inexpensively as possible, but still get good quality. I know I need: red ribbon, red & pink candles, jasmine scented things, i ching coins, a bagua mirror, some quartz crystals, some pieces of amethyst & jade and tourmaline, some bamboo wind chimes, some potted plants, a red tablecloth, some decorative stones, a fountain, some round mirrors, etc.
